Your Lips, Considered
You may like the fullness of your lips and want a little more definition at the edge. Or you may miss the volume they used to have. Those are different requests, and both deserve a more thoughtful conversation than choosing a syringe size.
At EllEve Med Spa, lip filler begins with the shape you have and the change you’d like to see. We welcome Calabasas patients to our boutique Woodland Hills practice, where personal attention and respect for natural beauty guide the conversation. We’ll explain what filler can change, how swelling may affect your first few days, and what a realistic maintenance plan involves.
A Closer Look at HA
Lip filler is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to add fullness, refine shape, or improve selected lip lines. Treatment can address the upper lip, lower lip, or both. The recommendation considers your proportions, tissue, movement, and any filler present.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance the body naturally makes that binds water. In a lip filler, it is processed into a gel that adds support where it is placed. Different formulations offer different levels of flexibility and fullness, so the product matters as much as the amount.
Shape Has Several Parts
Lip enhancement can involve the border, the body of the lip, or differences in fullness. A useful treatment plan identifies the part you want to change and considers how the mouth moves when you smile and speak.
Your natural lip shape sets the starting point. Filler cannot reliably copy someone else’s lips, correct every asymmetry, or guarantee that a thin upper lip will remain visible during a broad smile. Those limitations are worth discussing before deciding how much product to place.
For concerns involving the cheeks, chin, or other areas, we provide a broader view of facial treatment.
The Product Has a Job
EllEve’s filler offerings include Restylane Kysse and options within the Juvéderm collection. Lip-appropriate products have their own indications and characteristics; the team can explain which formulation fits the treatment being proposed.
Restylane Kysse is an HA filler approved for lip augmentation and upper lip lines in adults over 21. Juvéderm also has HA formulations approved for the lips, including Ultra XC and Volbella XC. Ask which exact product is recommended and why. Product availability should be confirmed when you book.
Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse have different roles in facial treatment and are not appropriate substitutes for HA lip filler.
Filler adds volume. A lip flip uses a small amount of a neuromodulator to relax selected muscle fibers around the upper lip, allowing more of the lip to show in some patients. A lip flip is an off-label use and does not provide filler’s volume.
The right discussion includes your smile, lip movement, and the improvement you expect. More visible lips when smiling and fuller lips at rest are different treatment goals.
Bring Your Point of View
Tell us what you like about your lips as well as what you’d like to change. A reference photograph can help explain a preference, but your own tissue and proportions determine what is achievable, so consultations help evaluate the cosmetic imperfections that concern you, your goals, and relevant skin considerations.
Your assessment should account for lip definition, fullness, movement, and previous treatment. Your consultation should also lead to a custom treatment plan based on your anatomy, lip movement, and any prior filler. If existing filler has created a ridge or persistent unevenness, it needs evaluation before adding more. Choosing a smaller amount does not automatically prevent an overfilled appearance; placement and the condition of the tissue also matter.
Review the injector’s credentials, experience, and portfolio to assess aesthetic style and results before you book.
Lip fillers commonly used for cosmetic augmentation are approved for adults over 21. Suitable candidates have realistic goals and can allow time for healing. Your provider will review your health history, allergies, medications, and previous injections.
An active cold sore, infection, or significant irritation around the mouth can mean postponing treatment. A history of cold sores should be discussed even if you have no current symptoms; preventive medication may be appropriate. Elective filler is generally deferred during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety has not been established.
Inside the Appointment
The appointment typically includes confirmation of the plan, cleansing, topical numbing, and injections into the agreed areas. Many HA fillers also contain lidocaine to improve comfort. Lips are sensitive, and you may still feel pinching, pressure, or a brief sting.
Your injector assesses the lips as treatment progresses. The goal, starting anatomy, existing filler, and response of the tissue guide the amount placed. You can ask how much is proposed for each lip and what that amount is expected to accomplish.
Allow roughly 30–60 minutes as a general guide, including preparation; the team will confirm the appropriate booking length. Before leaving, review aftercare and how to contact the practice if symptoms concern you.
The First Look Changes
Lip filler adds volume immediately, but early swelling can make the result look much fuller than expected. The upper and lower lip may swell differently. Give the tissue time to recover before judging the final proportions or asking for more product.
Swelling, tenderness, bruising, and temporary firmness are common. Applying ice packs can help reduce swelling after lip filler procedures. Everyday tasks may be manageable even while your lips look visibly treated. For work calls or social plans, consider whether you’ll feel comfortable with that temporary appearance.
Early swelling has often improved enough to assess the shape more clearly, although some product reactions take longer to resolve. Contact the team about persistent lumps, increasing swelling, or a concern that is not improving. Avoid trying to reshape a lump yourself.
Follow your product-specific instructions for makeup, lip products, heat, and alcohol. Strenuous exercise is commonly restricted for 24–48 hours. Keep the area clean and avoid pressure or massage unless your injector directs it.
Rarely, filler can enter or block a blood vessel. Severe or worsening pain, pale skin, or an unusual mottled or dusky color requires urgent medical assessment. Vision changes or stroke symptoms require emergency care. Alert your injector promptly; do not wait for a routine follow-up.
Plan for What Lasts
Lip filler results often last around 6–12 months, with some formulations shown to last up to one year with optimal treatment. Product, amount, prior treatment, and individual response influence the duration. The team can give you a more useful estimate once a product and plan have been selected.
Some people achieve their intended change in one visit. Others may benefit from staged treatment after healing. Maintenance should follow an assessment of the lips and remaining product, rather than an automatic refill date.
Before You Choose a Syringe
Pricing reflects the complexity of the anatomy, the filler selected, and the amount needed. A small refinement to the border and a plan involving previous filler or several areas of correction can involve different care.
Ask for the total cost of the recommended treatment, including how any follow-up or additional product is charged. EllEve offers financing, subject to approval and the lender’s terms. The team can discuss current pricing during your consultation.

Temporary swelling and firmness can affect how your lips feel at first. A healed result aims to preserve comfortable movement, but feel varies with the product, amount, and placement. Follow your injector’s guidance about kissing and pressure during recovery, and report persistent firmness or discomfort.
Filler can move beyond the intended area. A ridge above the lip or ongoing fullness outside the border needs assessment, especially before adding more product. Timing, amount, placement, and previous treatment all belong in that evaluation. An injector cannot promise zero migration risk.
HA filler can often be reduced with hyaluronidase, used off-label for this purpose. Dissolving may take several treatments and carries risks, including allergic reactions. It cannot guarantee a precise return to your original lips. Tell your provider about your medical and allergy history before considering it.
Ask the team about available quantities and pricing. A smaller amount may suit some goals, but half a syringe is not a universal starting dose. The recommendation needs to account for your lip shape, existing filler, and the change you want.
HA binds water, and filler can change lip fullness or texture. It is not a treatment for persistent cracking, eczema, or an irritated lip barrier. Have ongoing dryness assessed and allow inflamed skin to heal before elective injections.
