In order to remove the hair, this laser targets the bulb of the hair which we know as the hair follicle. In order for the laser to be able to penetrate it must be able to ‘see’ melanin, so the darker your hair is, the better results you will receive. Unfortunately, due to needing to have darker pigmented hair to be able make the hair follicle dormant, grey and blonde hair cannot be treated.
Many patients who are new to Laser Hair Removal worry about pain, but advances in technology have made this treatment practically painless, although everyone’s pain tolerance is different. The Excel HR has a cooling tip on the handpiece that helps to alleviate the heat of the laser. Clients are comfortable enough to not need numbing and are very happy with their treatment results.
In most cases, there is no downtime; you can resume your daily routine after the procedure. Side effects like mild inflammation, redness, tenderness, swelling, and stinging or tingling (like from a sunburn) may be experienced, but these typically are mild and usually subside by the end of the day.
On average clients will need 6-8 treatments in order to see optimal results. Depending on how your body is responding, there are times where you will need to do more treatments. There are multiple factors on why this can happen like hormones, having very thick hair, or not staying consistent in your treatment plan.
You will notice after your second treatment that the hair is coming back, this is common and necessary due to the laser manipulating your hair growth cycles to be growing all at once so that after your 3rd treatment you will see better and better results! We promise when we say that you’ll get your results, you just need to be patient for the first 3 months.
You will need to come in every 4-6 weeks. Avoiding sun exposure, self tanner, and topical antibiotics is a must in order to be treated. NO waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams that can remove the hair in its entirety. You can only shave in between your treatments. This is because the laser needs to be able to address the hair follicle as mentioned above.
